IN SUMMARY:

  1. 3rd examination failure: sit out two exam cycles, then reapply (submit application, pay application fee)
  2. 4th examination failure: sit out two exam cycles, then reapply (submit application, pay application fee)
  3. 5th or more examination failure: sit out two exam cycles, then successfully complete a board-approved review course prior to reapplying




Examination Registration Process

The examination registration process is essentially a two-step process:

  1. Submit an application along with the corresponding application fee to the Board Office. The Board will review and approve your application.
  2. ONLY AFTER BOARD APPROVAL, you must then register with ELSES and pay an examination fee to reserve a seat for the examination.LS Board.

For FE examinees enrolled in school:

**CHECK WITH YOUR DEAN'S OFFICE CONCERNING DEADLINES FOR STUDENTS**

     Graduating seniors of 4-year engineering curricula and graduate engineering students may be permitted to take the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination during their last accademic year pursuant to Section 1303.A of the Rules of the Board. You must complete a Louisiana state application, which can be found on the Louisiana Board's Web Site at www.lapels.com.

     The applicant must first submit the completed application to his/her Dean of Engineering. The Dean has the authority to approve student applicants for the examination. Once approved by the Dean, the student applicants must also register with ELSES to reserve a seat for the examination and pay the examination fee required by ELSES by the posted deadline (ELSES information will be updated after 01 July 2008). Any registrations received after this date will not be considered for this examination. Your eligibility will be verified directly with the university.

Please note: So that we may verify your eligibility with your university, please ensure that you select the university you currently attend.

For FE examinees who are recent graduates:

     Anyone who is no longer currently enrolled as a student must submit the "Engineer Intern (Non-Student)" application to the Louisiana Board with the appropriate fee. This form may be downloaded from the Louisiana Board's website at www.lapels.com. After being approved, applicants must also register with ELSES and pay the registration fee.

     Re-examination non-student examinees who have previously tested as a Louisiana examinee must submit a signed and dated copy of the results letter, along with the appropriate fee, to the Louisiana Board. You must reschedule with the Louisiana Board in order to be considered an approved examinee.

     Note that ELSES only allows certain types of calculators to be used during the examination. See the ELSES Calculator Policy for more details.

Examination Schedule

Examinations in land surveying and in the Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, Structural I, and Structural II engineering disciplines are offered in the spring and fall of each year.

Examinations in the discipline of Architectural engineering and Naval Architecture & Marine engineering are offered ONLY in the spring of each year.

Examinations in all other engineering disciplines are offered ONLY in the fall of each year.

The professional examinations are offered on Fridays, and the fundamentals examinations are offered on Saturdays. Upcoming examination weekends include:

   April 11-12, 2008
October 24-25, 2008




Current Application Deadlines
For the October, 2008 examination:

(1) First-time non-student applications must be received by the Board Office not later than June 1, 2008. The COMPLETE application must be received by this date -- incomplete applications may not be processed.

(2) Applications other than first-time applications must be received by the Board Office not later than July 24, 2008.

(3) Student Intern applicants must submit the completed application to their Dean of Engineering. They must also register with ELSES to reserve a seat for the examination and pay the examination fee required by ELSES.

  • Professional Engineering examinations are administered in Baton Rouge.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering examinations are administered in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Ruston.
  • All surveying examinations are administered in Baton Rouge.
